Bolete eater
Hypomyces chrysospermus
-37.8069, 145.253
Field Notes
Description:
About 140mm wide this mushroom shaped conglomeration looked just like concrete from the out side. On lifting one side for a better view it came away from the ground, breaking to reveal a confused conglomeration in it's centre also. All parts seemed to be organic with some softness and pliability. The dark bits were firmer; the white bits like mashmallows; the yellow bits were shedding clouds of dust or spores.
Habitat:
Dry eucalyptus woodlands on very wide highway median strip.
Notes:
This mass was possibly a salmon gum bolete at one stage.
