Field Notes

Description:

Also known as White-cheeked Rosella or parrot, some also call it a rainbow parrot. Medium sized member of the Australian parrot family, multiple colours including red head, white cheek patch, yellow with black scalloped back extending to wings, also shades of blue & turquoise on wings & tail, rump patch of aqua blue, yellow belly with red near vent, splash of green near legs, white also on tail feathers. A seed eater & nectar sipper, call is a series of tinkling calls & high pitched chatter.

Habitat:

Found throughout a variety of habitats in south east Australia & Tasmania. It was also introduced into New Zealand where feral populations now exist. This one in dry woodland & farm environment in north east NSW.
