Field Notes

Description:

A woody shrub with silvery leaves. The silvery scales on the upper surface tend to be lost over time, but persist on the underside. The small, four-petaled flowers are numerous. The immature fruit also has silvery scales that are lost as it ripens into a red, juicy berry.

Habitat:

Widespread, mostly in partial sun.
