Field Notes

Description:

An attractive longhorn beetle with blotchy purple and orange colours and dense short white setae giving it a velvety look. The beetle was about 16 mm long. the basal segment (stape) of the antennae and the femurs were thick.
Mouth parts were not visible. My initial impression was that of a dead longicorn with the head missing !

Habitat:

Spotted under bright lights near a sports field (eucalypts around)

A native to Australia

Notes:

I am not able to find much information about this particular species except that it is from the Subfamily: Cerambycinae. Longicorns from this family have forward protruding mouthparts (prognathous). they are obviously very short in this species.
Larvae are wood borers usually affecting weakened trees.
Family: Cerambycidae
