Field Notes

Description:

This bird is medium sizes to large bird that has various shades of blue to light gray on the upper body and light blue to light gray on the lower body. The head has a prominent blue crest, the face is lihjt gray to light blue with a dark ring from the chin to the crest. The face also is marked with black from the base of the beak through the eye region. Wings are bright blue with whith wing bars and black markings.

Habitat:

Cities, parks forest and woodland edges

Notes:

This is a very attractive bird that is sometimes loud and aggressive snd other times quiet and secretive.

Thanks for the comments on the recent Blue Jays. Those pictures were shot with a Canon Rebel XS and Ef 75 - 300 mm Zoom lens. I try to document the birds that come to either of the feeders that are near the house. In this case the camera was in the house and about 8 - 10 feet from the Blue Jays. If I'm getting a lot of my favorite birds, I set the camera up on a tripod and prefocus on the feeder. Using this procedure all I have to do is turn the camera on and take some quick documenting shots, then I can work on improving my choices by taking several more shots. Agin, thanks for the comments.
