Field Notes

Description:

The first two photos are the female, she is a mostly maroon color on the back with a pale belly. The last 4 photos are the male, and he is green and brown mottled on the back with a pale belly. An easy way to ID any type of spadefoot is by the vertical pupils, which is unusual among frogs.

Habitat:

Found in a pond in an oak forest at night. Also saw several on the roads.
