Cracticus torquatus
-37.8998, 145.311
Field Notes
Description:
These baby butcherbirds have french-grey & white plumage and beautiful black beady eyes. Their heads start off fuzzier than their parents but these two have grown-up a little. Their bills have not developed an observable hook as yet.
Habitat:
Suburban backyard- enjoying a drink on a warm day.
Notes:
These babies are probably second generation. The adults can be seen in this spotting
https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/996460199
They are yet to demonstrate hooking food on to splintered branches as the adults were observed to do. Until a month ago they were both flying around with their parents now they are independent and successfully snatch grubs from leaf litter or come up to the back door looking for food..really cute !
