Field Notes

Description:

The mildly fragrant flowers of the lemon tree may be solitary or there may be 2 or more clustered in the leaf axils. The opened flowers are white on the upper surface and have yellow anthers. The fruit, recognizable by its yellow oval shape and an acid bitter taste, is not generally eaten as a fruit, but its aromatic juice rich in vitamin C is used to flavor salads, broths and cooked dishes of meat and fish, or made into a beverage.

Maltese name: Lumija
