Field Notes

Description:

This subspecies of water monitor inhabits mainland Southeast Asia, Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo, and smaller satellite islands. It is a large, common monitor lizard found in close proximity to water. This specimen was the smallest (youngest) of several I observed at this location.

Habitat:

This monitor was observed walking up from a tidal wetland toward a pathway in the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (Singapore). It was exceedingly dry in Singapore including those areas of the wetland reserve not influenced by tidal waters.

Notes:

The map marker is not precise.
