Field Notes

Description:

pollinated by hummingbirds

Habitat:

tropical rainforest

Notes:

I spotted this huge clump of Heliconia near the end of segment 12 of the Waitukubuli national trail. Not sure if it's native. I only saw this twice during a month and a half hiking the island. I got the ID from a info board at the national trail office.

It's made a long trip to Dominica somehow. Probably a garden escapee though I wasn't near a garden and didn't see it in any gardens. I'm guessing you saw it in your native homeland ;)
It's native to northern South America, Dan. I saw tons of these too... Guess where?
