Description:

Also known as the Chilean pine, this is an introduced species from central and southern Chile to north Argentina, can grow up to 40 metres tall. commonly caled the monkey puzzle tree because of its tangle of branches.
These trees are dioceous with male and female cones on different trees, this one bearinjg female cones which mature in autumn about 18 months after pollination, they are globose, fairly large (melon sized), 12–20 cm diameter, and hold about 200 seeds

seen growing by a public footpath in Appleby in westmorland
