Chinese Privet
Ligustrum sinense
34.0063, -84.5882
Field Notes
Description:
So lovely, but so highly invasive. Chances are if you are admiring pretty white pannicles of white flowers that have seemingly burst forth everywhere overnight this May, you are admiring Chinese Privet (which is indeed, seemingly everywhere it should not be.) This species is choking out native vegetation in our wetlands.
Habitat:
It was introduced to North America to be used for hedges and landscaping where it has now escaped from cultivation and is listed as an invasive plant in some states in the southeast.
Notes:
Spotted in wooded ravine behind warehouses in Kennesaw, GA
