Field Notes

Description:

Medium-sized beetle, approximately 22-25 mm long. Colored as shown. Note short antennae, considering it is in the longhorned beetle family Cerambycidae.

Habitat:

Found resting on a stucco mailbox post in an urban residential area.

Notes:

This insect is named for the pupal chamber created by the larva, consisting of a coil of coarse frass (bug poop), and circular in shape.
