Description:

Manatees are large, gray marine mammals. In Florida, they are threatened by boat propellers. Almost all manatees have scars from encounters with boats. Manatees are endangered. This particular manatee was in a group of a least four others.

Habitat:

Coastal waters around Florida and the west Indies.

Notes:

Manatees are largely sedentary. They can grow algae and barnacles on their backs.
