Field Notes

Notes:

Guess these beetles are feeding on all the dead wood in my yard and the nature preserve park down the street. I found this approximately 2" long adult drowning in a rain barrel. Saved it, then took a few pictures cause I'd never seen anything like it before. At one point it ran towards me, I freaked and accidentally swatted it pretty hard, and then it played dead like a possum for over 30 minutes which I thought was pretty interesting behaviour for a bug.
