Field Notes

Description:

This is a raptor which never seems to land. Often found hovering or flying very low to the ground. As soon as it finds something for food it attacks. Males are this color of this one. Females are brown and have a visible white spot just above the tail when flying.

Habitat:

This one was spotted near the Snake River below American Falls. Often found around large fields when mice are abundant. Males and females are found in different areas during the winter season. Then the pair up again for nesting season.

Notes:

There were two males in the same area hunting. As it is still winter they are not paired up yet. We came upon these two and then they left. They kept touching down and then taking off again.
