Description:

One of the more colourful members of the finch family, this one is a ground feeder favouring seeds and nuts in its diet. it has a very loud and varied call so you can usuallyy hear them before spotting them. This one is a male as the females are a much duller brown.

Habitat:

seen near a river on a walk in the Eden valley, Appleby in westmorland
