Field Notes

Description:

A total length of 50 to 63 mm, it is one of the largest skimmers. Males become completely pruinose blue, with blue eyes and white faces. Younger males appear similar to females but gradually become blue. Females have white faces and develop blue eyes.

Habitat:

On a branch at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve

Thanks again Geodialist. I was hoping you would confirm. I am slowly learning to ID in general then what to look for to become more specific. Again I am putting your comment in Notes so they are not lost to me.
You are correct, Gatorfellows. This dragonfly is an immature male as indicated by its terminal appendages: there are two superior appendages (cerci); and one inferior appendage (epiproct).
