Field Notes

Description:

The mayfly in the first photo was playing a dangerous game by flying so close to the waiting wagtail! there were pied and grey wagtails on the river both out catching flies. They stand flicking their tails up and down which is where part of their common name comes from.

Habitat:

seen on the river Eden in Appleby in westmorland
