Description:
This native blackberry is in a dense thicket that is roughly the size of a warehouse building. Other species of blackberry and brambles are intermingled in the thicket, notably the invasive species Himalayan blackberry.
Habitat:
Native to southeastern North America. Habitats include savannas and sandy savannas, thickets and sandy thickets, riverbottom prairies and moist sand prairies, woodland borders, and acidic gravelly seeps. This blackberry is usually found in areas where there has been some disturbance from natural or human-related causes. It is a pioneer species.
Notes:
Spotted in an open & previously cleared/disturbed lot between industrial complex and uncultivated wetlands/drainage area.
