Field Notes

Description:

Large iridescent blue beetle about 1 1/4 inches (3 centimeters). Does not appear able to fly, and crawls slower than one might expect. Also takes a few seconds to right itself when turned over onto its back. I'm guessing this one is a female due to its large abdomen.

Habitat:

In the grass of our yard, near several flower gardens.
