Description:

Large diving duck that frequents freshwater

Habitat:

Hawthorne Park, Medford, in the river under the freeway

Notes:

Only two weeks prior I had spotted a Red breasted off the coast and thought to myself that if I saw a common, I'd have three species of mergansers

The sad thing is that I left my ultra zoom at home. I took this with a mere 10x zoom - the camera I use for indoor low light events, like the karate tournament I was coaching that day. I'd have gotten some amazing photos before this guy swam and then dove away
I have been waiting for these to appear. Maybe they are back. I will check.
