Field Notes

Description:

About 24mm long. Grey with a sprinkling of black and yellow specks and three wavy black bands. White collar around a snubby face..

Habitat:

Clinging to a lighting grill in a local nature reserve.

Notes:

Also called 'Boisduval's Autumn moth'. These are in a group called stub moths - Oenosandridae. They have flat faces, there are only 8 named species, 6 of those are found in Victoria. The female of this one is almost a negative in appearance - white with a broad black lateral line. Larvae feed on eucalyptus. Wingspan approximately 50mm. <br>
