Field Notes

Description:

About 36" tall. Single stalk, with flower cluster at the tip and three immediately beneath, on either side. Stems of the lower budding flowers originate in the leaf axils. Leaves are long and slender, ranging from 4" to about 8" long, and 3/4" to about 1 1/2" wide), with wavy edges. Alternate. No stems on the leaves. Main stalk of the plant is heavily "winged" (photo 2) ... very distinctive.

Very surprised this wasn't in my guide book, and I am very curious to know what this is.

Habitat:

Longleaf Pine/Turkey Oak Sandhill, Ocala, Florida

Check out the weird stem-- it's got those wings on the stem. I don't believe either Buddleia or lupine has those....
Appears to be a butterfly bush, or possibly a species of lupin
