Field Notes

Description:

A very common snake in NY. Usually greenish or brown with darker blotches down the sides. Most have a yellow or light colored stripe running from neck to tail. Diet consists of mainly invertebrates and amphibians, but they will also eat fish and rodents.

Habitat:

Found basking in the open near a rock wall.

Notes:

Large adult! I didn't even notice it until it started to move. It made no attempt to bite, but was very focused on me and my camera, even after I had put it back down.
