Description:

Eastern Chanting Goshawk or Somali Chanting Goshawk is a medium sized elegant bird of prey, pale grey in color with grey-and-white striped belly and chest; length in total of some 70cm. Long orange-yellow legs, and yellow beak with black tip; dark eye.

Habitat:

Seen in Borena district of Oromiya region of Ethiopia; in a semi-urban setting on outskirts of village. Dry woodland with plenty of agricultural fields.

Notes:

As seen from the date, I'm still struggling to arrange my archives - and every now and then something new/old pops up... Sorry for the poor quality of photos - long distance and high luminosity have taken their toll here... and this trip to Negele and Hudet was the only occasion where I saw this beautiful raptor. The picture 5 is from the next day, in the same spot...
