Wildlife Spotting

For a species this common it is very possible to find one that lost its tail in an accident.

Crombec's are what I was thinking of with essentially no tail! They seem to have a little longer of a bill though. I read Eremomela's are similar, but they seem to have too long of a tail for your bird to be one. Hope this helps you get closer to an ID!

Certainly not a grey-headed sparrow, they have a long tail. There is a whole group of African birds with practically no tail and I can't remember what they are right now. Itty bitty birds though, I'm impressed you got a photo of one! I only ever saw flashes of them as they flew by me. I'll get up and get my field guide soon when I still can't remember :)

Maybe grey-headed sparrow?
