I've found these growing on disturbed ground under a mix of Salix and Populus, quite near the sidewalk and about 10m away from a pond. A week before I came past these, it had rained and it had been warm a few days after. First time I've found them on this spot, by the way! They mostly occur around the end of march and throughout april. Recently I've read an article about morels in Belgium, in which they said they're pretty rare over there! I didn't knew that! I think you should come to Holland to find them, some places in abundance (: There were about 8 specimen growing here. This particular species is found growing on nutriëntrich floors with a good humuslayer, under deciduous trees in parks and (vegetable)gardens. (source: http://www.verspreidingsatlas.nl/0641010#) As you can see on the map, it does occur more often in the coastregions. Though, as far as I know, it is not a specific mushroom of these areas.
In which type of habitat are you finding them? I am in Belgium but I still did not find any of these where I do my walks..perhaps I should try looking for them in areas more near to the sea? (or go to Holland :-)?
