Field Notes

Description:

My first narrow-mouthed toad! This guy is pretty small, probably no more than 2 inches. The narrow-mouthed toads have small heads in relation the the body size. The great plains narrow-mouthed toads have a plain white belly in contrast to the eastern narrow-mouthed toad, which has a belly with dark marks and mottling.

Habitat:

Found close to a small river

Notes:

These toads, although probably not this individual, will sometimes live with tarantulas in their burrows. According to "A Field Guide to Oklahoma's Amphibians and Reptiles", there have been as much as 22 toads with a single tarantula in Wagoner County, OK!
