Field Notes

Description:

Found this clump of mushrooms all growing from one tiny piece of mulch for two years ago that was under some dirt in my yard. They were not too fresh and were starting to get a little tough. I thought they might be edible, so I cooked a tiny bit and tasted it(DONT DO THIS< ITs NOT SMART!) Anyway, they seemed fairly unremarkable in taste. They were found in three seperate spots on my yard and my neighbors yard. When newly sprouted they were tender and not as fibrous. FOUND EARLY FALL, MISSOURI

Habitat:

sunny side of yard on mulch. Looked like it was growning on the soil until I dug a bit deeper

Notes:

seen several "look-a-likes" but can't be sure. SORRY NO SPORE PRINT

yep...I ate them...not tasty, but Ok. tough too...
They do indeed look like Honey Mushrooms, but I'd suggest Armillaria tabescens ('Ringless Honey Fungus') instead on account of the lack of an annulus (ring). But it's hard to be sure because of the small image size. If they are indeed Armillaria they are edible. If you posted a high resolution image I could probably confirm them.
