Field Notes

Description:

We at first thought it was a big beetle flying by our heads, but when we got a closer look we were very surprised. It seemed the green dragonfly was carrying the other dragonfly. Very strange.

Habitat:

Along the edge of the pine forest and next to the wetlands.

Notes:

Picture was taken at the Orlando Wetlands Park, Christmas, FL.

Hey Hema, that is awesome to hear! You know I actually haven't ventured out in Fort Wilderness yet. I certainly look forward to seeing what you spotted. :)
nice one. Just got back from Florida. Saw the Viera Wetlands , Meritt island and Lake Beuna vista and Fort Wilderness. Lovely!!
Just a heads up... You misspelled Pondhawk
Is that normal for them to prey on other dragonflies?
From the look of the wings looks like prey is a Halloween Pennant.
Excellent find! The green dragonfly (Erythemis simplicicollis) is preying on a smaller dragonfly, likely in the same family—Erythemis simplicicollis.
