Field Notes

Description:

I found this vertabrae and what appears to be a skull of something. I can definitely see one pointy tooth about a 1/4" long, and possibly a couple other teeth, as well as what I beleive to be nostrils on the nose/snout. Also see 2 holes on the top of the head, closer to the 1st vertabrae. Vertabrae discs are still pliable and the head can actually move some.

Habitat:

It was found in a grasslands area, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains that had severe flooding, about 20-30 yards from a creek in between two mountains. The area is now being dug up some to repair/remake some hiking trails that are in the area. Heavy equioment is being used help to rebuid the area. Local wildlife includes elk, deer, and mountain lions, among others.
