Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful flower that grows on a vine with tendrils to grab the fence and trellis. The light lime green flower bulb opens up to reveal a green center and tiny black, white and blue pedals. One of my favorite and great pride and joys.

Habitat:

Grown while in England, so high latitudes and long summers promote a lot of growth and the rich soil was a huge bonus.

Notes:

I had a small garden but the richness of bloom was very fun time for me!

In South Carolina, we call them Maypops. They grow wild here. When we were children we used to take the green fruit from the Maypop and make “pigs” by using four toothpicks for “legs”.
