Field Notes

Notes:

The gregarious Cliff Swallow nests in large colonies on buildings, cliffs, and under bridges. The gourd-shaped mud nests can number up to several hundred or thousand in a single location.
These swallows were nesting under eaves on every side of the motel I'm satying in. There are around 50 birds and they kept going down to gather mud from a large puddle behind the motel to build their nests with.
