Eastern blue-eyed grass
Sisyrinchium atlanticum
37.4042, -77.7025
Field Notes
Description:
Blue-eyed grasses are my favorite members of the iris family (Iridaceae). The wide bract and short flower stem distinguishes S. atlanticum from other species of Sisyrinchium. The flowers are about 1.5-2 cm across, and range from pale, pastel purple to a deep sky blue with a black-rimmed yellow center.
Habitat:
Sunny, open areas such as fields and roadsides.
