Description:

this mother had ten ducklings hiding under her,She was protecting her ducklings from attacks by ther other mallard hen.

Thanks for the quick answer. Around here (restored river with flood plains) the ducks apparently hide their young, I haven't seen any in the last 2 years (still not giving up hope).

Thanks Ursula. According to this link, http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/helpingbirds/nesting_mallards/ducklings.aspx Ducks do not tolerate stray ducklings close to their own brood, and females kill small strange young they encounter.
Beautiful. Is it common behaviour for female mallards to attack foreign ducklings?
