Description:
Small tree or shrub from Rosaceae family; this tree was about 1,5 m tall, with a crown roughly of the same diameter. Dark deeply lobed leaves with dense grapes (corymbs) of small white flowers - each flower about 10 to 12 mm in diameter, five petals, numerous stamens (anthers are red, while filaments whitish), and a single style.
Habitat:
Eurasian species, found in forests growing in shadow, and found up to 2000m of altitude. Here, found in a beautiful Bagasse forest (deciduous, predominantly oak, forest - photo 5) on France-Switzerland border, in a valley of lake Geneva, just in between Jura and Alps mountains ranges. Observed on a forest floor.
Notes:
Fruits, leaves and petals are edible: fruits as jams and jellies; while young leaves and petals are excellent in salads. Parts of the plant are also used in traditional medicine and herbalism. , apparently for cardiac problems. Investigated in medicine for cardiac insufficiency, and as sources of antioxidants.
