Field Notes

Description:

Plush moth about 28mm across wings back. A line of dark spots near outer margin. Dark areas on costa near base. Deep orange-red colour particularly near head and thorax. Antennae highly plumose black on white.

Habitat:

Attracted to lights remaining until daylight. In a local nature reserve adjoining a eucalyptus dominated national park.

Notes:

Pterolocera rubescens is a possibility but work needs to be done to determine the Victorian species (of which there are three as yet un-named). - (Peter Marriott on BB) <br>

Thanks Mac and DrN. The photos aren't very good because it was trapped inside a light cage but this one is about the ID. No image exists for this species yet so I have tried to match it from original written papers and might be very wrong. I will put it up to the national museum lepidoptera people and report back later.
