Description:
The Northern Redbelly snake is a small colubrid native to the Nova Scotia down to Florida and out to Texas. They're a small species usually not reaching lengths above 12 inches. Their diet consists of soft bodied arthropods like slugs and earthworms.
Habitat:
This species is often found in leaf litter, under logs, or in brush piles. They're are fairly common within their range.
Notes:
Usually when the warmer seasons come around each year, the first snakes I find or are called to come get are this species and small brown snakes. They're pretty snakes with a bright orange or red belly. They give birth to live young and are only known to have a lifespan of about 4 years.
