Field Notes

Description:

Massive head with very wide muzzle. Huge mouth armed with tusks. Eyes and ears small and high on head. Short thick neck. Barrel shaped body. Thick short legs. Short flattened tail with fringe of stiff bristles. Almost hairless skin brownish grey with pinkish folds.

Habitat:

Spotted in Chobe River. Spends most of the day in the water with eyes ears and nostrils exposed. Can submerge for up to 6 minutes. Grazes at night.
