Thank you gully, I am certainly not a fungi expert or even amateur. Several of us saw them and thought they were the real thing...this is a good example of why I dont collect and eat morels, since I know there are fake ones that wont do you any good.
This is not Morchella esculenta as you can see the stem runs up inside the cap, rather than attaching at the bottom. Be careful, some people find these make them feel very ill and eating them is not recommended. The toxins can also suddenly affect you after eating them for a long time with no apparent ill effects.
