Field Notes
Description:
Small brown glutinous bell-shaped caps with dark centres. Caps were about 15 mm wide. Stipe and gills were also brown. The base of the stipe and the area immediately around the clump of mushrooms showed extensive white mycelia.
Habitat:
Spotted growing amongst sodden leaf litter in a damp fern gully - tall Eucalyptus forest
Notes:
Thanks to gully.moy for assistance with identifying the genus. Still unsure about the species.
Cortinarius are agarics found in ectomycorrhizal associations trees in most forests including Eucalyptus and Nothofagus (Southern Beech)
