Amphibians such as lizards, birds, and spiders are three main predators of the swallowtail butterfly [Papilionidae family]. A fourth main predator may be humans. Humans become butterfly predators in three main ways. They're predatory as children before realizing that butterflies aren't playthings or toys. They're predatory as collectors. They're predatory as developers, home gardeners and landscapers before realizing the importance of natural habitat protection.
Which means she got away twice! It is the circle of life you know!
:( Wish we could do something. This had both it's tails nipped at.
Most of the time I have seen one swallow tail only. they are healthy and happy. If the Female lays hundreds of eggs what happens to the rest?
Thank you, Bernadette. I would like to see the eggs and the caterpillar too.
Thank you, Karen! It must have been hungry . It was nectaring for a long time. I feel that sometimes they just oblige!!
and how did you get him...her... to hold STILL!
