Field Notes

Description:

Acording to Wikipedia should be 8 mm long beetle, but this one is definitely bigger, it is very slim and has a bell-shaped elongated pronotum. The top is completely black and shiny. From the underside, but at least partially red colored abdomen is visible. Exceptionally they also occur with reddish pronotum. The adults are found from mid-May to August. They fly on sunny days on forest clearings and mainly visit the flowers of shrubs such as hawthorn.

Habitat:

It is widely distributed in Europe and lacking in a few areas, luck northern part of North Europe. It is also found in Asia Minor to the northern Iran. Spotted pollinating Hairy Rockrose flower [ http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/23007088 ]
