Field Notes

Description:

Generally cap is 5-10" wide
2-4" stalk
brown spore prints

Habitat:

Found in mixed woods.
These specifically were found on dead Hemlock.

Notes:

This species is said to have extremely healthy medicinal properties like its close relative Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi/Ling Chi).

The early stages of the fruiting body can by cut up, dried out and made into a tea. The mushroom becomes tougher later on in its life cycle and with its consistency becoming more woody/rubbery.
