Description:
A tiny fierce Checkered Beetle of 5 mm in length. It is very active, running and flying constantly. The mouthparts are reddish with fine sickle-shaped mandibles (see last picture). The elytra are shorter than the abdomen with the underwings showing, even when folded. The antennae are short and clubbed. The body is hairy with especially long spiny hair on the legs. The metasternum is oddly enlarged and 3 times the size of the other thoracic segments (see last picture). Family Cleridae.
Habitat:
Found at lights at night, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico 2,200 meters.
