Solitary potter wasp
38.9199, -77.0291
Field Notes
Description:
Solitary potter wasp, belonging to the Vespidae family (Eumeninae subfamily). Perhaps it is a Parancistrocerus pensylvanicus, however it also resembles Parancistrocerus perennis, and even the Leptochilus republicanus. -- Help in finding a proper ID is appreciated.
Habitat:
urban (backyard)
Notes:
Eumenines prey mainly upon moth larvae, although some take larvae of leaf-feeding beetles. This one was cutting though the layer of bounded and folded leafs to reach the caterpillar cocoon beneath.
