White-ribboned Carpet Moth
Mesoleuca ruficillata
41.904, -72.4698
Field Notes
Description:
Moth? With black at the narrowest part of its wings, white with a "scalloped" edge in the middle and the lower part black on the outer edges, white to the middle and patterned with black spots and "scallop" edges of gold/brown.
Habitat:
Seen at the edge of the lawn where it becomes wooded.
Notes:
I thought I had seen a piece of paper or a spent blossom flutter to the ground and land on a bit of branch on the ground. It was hard to see on the branch and I didn't realize it was anything alive until it quickly moved deep into the ferns.
