Field Notes

Description:

Spotted in the grounds of Haggerston castle,Northumbria
9-10cm, one of UK smallest birds. Also breeds in parts of North Africa,Asia and North America
Up to 80% mortality in very cold winters although capable of recovery within a couple of years.

Habitat:

Mixed woodlands near streams
Young are incubated for 15days and fledge after 17days.
Feeds on insects and other inverterbrates
