Description:

The West Coast Lady is one of three North American species of brush-footed butterflies known colloquially as the "painted ladies". V. annabella occurs throughout much of the western US and south western Canada.

Habitat:

clearing, in late day sun, pinyon juniper woodland, 7000'

Notes:

very territorial, repeatedly came back after my making it nervous, and chasing other flying things.
